If you're short on time but want to experience the dramatic contrast between bustling Ho Chi Minh City and the peaceful Mekong Delta, this speedboat tour is absolutely perfect. Forget the bumpy three-hour bus ride — we zipped down the Saigon River in a comfortable, shaded speedboat, and within 90 minutes, the city's skyscrapers had completely vanished, replaced by lush green mangroves, stilt houses, and locals fishing from tiny wooden boats. The highlight was visiting a bustling floating market (Cai Be), where vendors sell everything from tropical fruit to steaming bowls of noodles from boats piled high with goods. Our guide arranged for a small rowboat to take us through narrow, palm-shaded canals — so quiet and serene, completely different from the chaos of the city. We also stopped at a family-run workshop to see how coconut candy, rice paper, and popped rice are made by hand (and tasted plenty along the way!). Lunch was a delicious home-cooked meal served at a local house right on the water — fresh elephant ear fish, spring rolls, and tropical fruit. The speedboat made everything feel like an adventure rather than a long travel day, and we were back in Ho Chi Minh City by late afternoon with plenty of time to explore more. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny, the boat was clean and safe, and the whole day ran seamlessly. For anyone wanting a taste of delta life without an overnight stay, this tour is an absolute winner.
