Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone in An Giang province experienced strong growth in tourist numbers and revenue during the first six months of 2026, particularly from international tourists, affirming its position as a global destination in anticipation of APEC Year 2027.

Accordingly, Phu Quoc Island welcomed over 5.7 million tourists, a 30.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Of this, the international tourist segment attracted over 1.3 million visitors, a 50.3% increase, reaching 65.7% of the plan. Total tourism revenue exceeded 31,500 billion VND, a 46% increase, accounting for over 80% of the province’s total tourism revenue. This is a crucial resource contributing to the overall development of Phu Quoc Island, affirming its position as a key economic sector.
The Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone launched the “Every Phu Quoc resident is a tourism ambassador” movement; introduced a tourism rapid response team to protect and support tourists; surveyed and restored historical and cultural relics on the island to serve tourists for experiential exploration; implemented green transformation and digital transformation, building a modern and sustainable image of Phu Quoc, ready for world-class events, and developing the Phu Quoc brand towards the APEC Year 2027.
Mr. Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, shared that these actions demonstrate the determination to improve the image of tourism and transform Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone to a new level, carrying significant strategic importance. The establishment of a Rapid Response Team along with the Code of Conduct for Tourism acts as a “shield” to prevent price gouging and exploitation, while thoroughly addressing negative issues that affect the reputation of the Pearl Island. Building a culture of hospitality and encouraging every citizen to be a tourism ambassador helps spread a friendly and civilized attitude, creating a safe tourism environment and honoring local identity, helping tourists gain a deeper understanding of Phu Quoc’s history and culture. Green transformation and digital transformation are key to attracting high-end tourists, preparing infrastructure and organizational capacity to be ready for international-level events, especially aiming to promote the Phu Quoc brand during the APEC Year 2027.
To ensure the achievement and exceeding of the 2026 target of attracting over 9 million tourists, including 2 million or more international visitors, Phu Quoc continues to diversify its tourism products and improve service quality to meet the needs of tourists. Phu Quoc is implementing plans to cultivate high-quality human resources, especially in foreign languages; and strengthening inspection and control of speedboat and yacht operations around the island to ensure absolute safety for tourists.
Phu Quoc Island continues to vigorously implement the “Every Phu Quoc resident is a tourism ambassador” movement, promoting the active and effective role of the Tourism Rapid Response Team, protecting tourists and building a safe and friendly tourism environment. Simultaneously, it strengthens tourism promotion and advertising, disseminates tourism laws, and promotes cultural codes of conduct. The movement is implemented as a widespread mass campaign, aiming to change people’s perceptions and transform each individual into a link in promoting and preserving the image of Phu Quoc Island in the eyes of international friends.
The tourism rapid response team aims to build Phu Quoc’s image as a safe, friendly, and civilized destination; inspect and monitor tourism activities, promptly detect and handle violations of the law. The team coordinates efforts to strengthen the management of canoe and yacht activities around the island, marine tourism services, and coral reef diving to ensure absolute safety for tourists.
To prepare for the APEC 2027 Summit, in addition to investing in infrastructure on Phu Quoc Island, as assigned by the Prime Minister to An Giang province (21 projects totaling approximately 137,138 billion VND), the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone is coordinating with relevant units to focus on training foreign languages and high-level service skills for staff, aiming to build an image of a civilized and professional destination; implementing a “Green Label” system for accommodation establishments and promoting ecotourism products, with the goal of making Phu Quoc a “Green Island” at APEC 2027.
With strong growth momentum in the first half of 2026, Phu Quoc confidently asserts itself not only as a leading resort paradise on the world tourism map but also as a dynamic international event center. In the second half of 2026, Phu Quoc will continue to make breakthroughs, expected to achieve and surpass the 2026 plan targets, creating a solid foundation to shine in the APEC Year 2027.
