Verified PurchaseBy Mike Sullivan(Ireland)April 9, 2026 Halong Bay Hidden GemsHere's the thing about Halong Bay — everyone does the 2-day cruise. And honestly? Most of them leave feeling a little… underwhelmed. Too many boats, too crowded, too rushed. So when our travel agent suggested the 3-day Victory Cruise to Bai Tu Long Bay instead, I was skeptical. Another day on a boat? But wow — best decision ever. Day one was fine — the usual stuff: Sung Sot Cave (cool but packed), kayaking (fun but other tourists everywhere), cooking class (actually pretty entertaining). I was starting to think, 'Yeah, this is nice but nothing special.' Then day two happened. While all the other boats turned back toward port, we kept sailing deeper into the bay. Suddenly, the noise disappeared. The other boats vanished. And we were alone — just us, limestone karsts, and the most ridiculously blue-green water I've ever seen. We kayaked through a secret lagoon that you could only reach through a tiny crack in the cliff. We visited a floating fishing village where kids waved from their front porches (which were also their boats). We swam at a beach with no one else on it — like, literally no one. That night, anchored in complete silence, I sat on the sundeck with a beer and watched the stars come out over the mountains. It was one of those 'pinch me' moments. Day three was a chill cruise back, with a stop at a pearl farm where I learned way more about oysters than I ever expected to. The boat was comfortable, the crew was friendly, and the food was solid (lots of seafood, lots of spring rolls). But really, the highlight was just having the space and time to actually relax and take it all in. So here's my advice: if you can swing the extra day, do it. The 2-day cruise gives you a taste. The 3-day cruise gives you the real thing.Date of Experience: April 02, 2026
